Pruning Citrus Trees: Lemons, Limes, Oranges and More

Garden Talk Pruning for Beginners with UC Marin Master Gardeners Margaret Chu and Betty Jennings
Note: At 4:55 in the recording we had a momentary sound issue but the slides repeat a few seconds later with sound. The Larkspur Library was excited to host UC Marin Master Gardener's Margaret Chu and Betty Jennings who shared with us the techniques and tools for beginning pruning. This is an introductory class to pruning woody plants. We will cover basic plant biology, the fundamental vocabulary of pruning, the categories of trees, the reasons for pruning, when to prune, the steps in pruning, the basic pruning tools, and the fundamental pruning cuts. You will learn how a tree grows and how it will react to pruning. The goal of this workshop is to provide a basic understanding of where, why, and how to prune that will enable attendees to maintain healthy and visually pleasing trees. Margaret Chu and Betty Jennings are Marin Master Gardener Pruning Guild Journeyman Pruners. Through the Pruning Guild, they have had two years of extensive lecture and hands-on training from certified aesthetic pruners. With their years of continued Pruning Guild membership, they have further advanced their pruning knowledge and skills as well as their teaching skills. This event is in partnership with the UC Marin Master Gardeners and the Commons Foundation, and the Zoom is made possible by the Friends of the Larkspur Library.

Garden Talk: Pruning Japanese Maple with UC Marin Master Gardener Donna Miller
The Larkspur Library is proud to host a workshop with UC Marin Master Gardeners Donna Miller on Pruning Japanese Maples. The time of year determines the kind of pruning for Japanese maples. In late spring, ideally May, the goal is to create space in the tree to allow more airflow and sunlight. This workshop will cover pruning techniques that promote the health of these trees as well as improved aesthetics. It will be a 1-hour talk with a half-hour demonstration of pruning cuts and techniques, with Q & A. This event is in partnership with the UC Marin Master Gardeners and the Commons Foundation. The Zoom was made possible by the Friends of the Larkspur Library.
